Cape Town – The ANC Youth League in the Eastern Cape has called for Education MEC Mandla Makupula to be redeployed following the province’s dismal matric results.
The province's entire administration had to be overhauled, the ANCYL said on Tuesday.
Eastern Cape matrics got a 56.8% pass rate in the National Senior Certificate examinations, making it the worst-performing province.
The ANCYL called for drastic measures to be implemented to safeguard the future of the province's youth.
"The MEC has been at the helm since 2010 and all his efforts have been witnessed. We do not believe that there is more creativity forthcoming from his leadership to take us forward," spokesperson Ayongezwa Lungisa said in a statement.
Under-performing district directors had to be fired and all vacant posts filled by June.
"The results are a reflection of an ailing system in the province and the devil is in the administration."
