Johannesburg -The Economic Freedom Fighters on Saturday sent congratulations to Cuban leader Fidel Castro on his 90th birthday.
“The EFF wishes to express gratitude and congratulations for the selfless, inspiring and revolutionary contribution Fidel Castro played to advance a truly free and human world,” EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said.
Ndlozi reffered to a speech made by Castro at a Cuban Youths, Students and Workers on International Labour Day, saying it defined the 90 years of Castro's life.
In his speech Castro said: “Revolution means to have a sense of history; it is changing everything that must be changed; it is full equality and freedom; it is being treated and treating others like human beings; it is achieving emancipation by us and through our own efforts.”
Ndlozi said the EFF was guided by revolutionary internationalism and solidarity that defined the politics of the July 26 Movement, which led the Cuban Revolutionary struggles.
“We will partake in international struggles that seek to emancipate the economically unliberated people of Africa and the world,” he said.
Ndlozi said South Africans knew that their liberation from apartheid was unthinkable without the contribution of the Cuban people.
“It is the Cuban role in the Angolan Civil War, in particular at the battle of Cuito Cuanavale that humbled the arrogant apartheid armies,” he said.
He said the generosity of the Cuban people was made in the image of Castro's heart.
“The medial contribution of the Cuban people to the oppressed of the world tops it all,” Ndlozi said.
He said South Africa would forever be indebted to the Cubans and to Commandante Fidel Castro.
“On his birthday, we say long live the Cuban Revolution,” he said.
