Johannesburg - The EFF in Ekurhuleni has promised that its members and supporters will not cause any chaos during the voting for a mayor at the first seating on Tuesday.
EFF regional chairperson Mampuru Mampuru said the chaos that was seen during the first sitting of council in Rustenburg would not be repeated in Ekurhuleni.
"There will be no chaos like we saw in Rustenburg. Ekurhuleni is a peaceful place and we will abide by its name," he said.
Mampuru promised that, whoever came out victorious, the EFF would "uphold the integrity of the office".
On several occasions, however, the EFF disrupted proceedings on Tuesday, requesting that councillors vote by a show of hands instead of a secret ballot.
Outgoing ANC Mayor Mondli Gungubele said he was confident that an ANC speaker, mayor and chief whip would be elected by the end of the day.
On Friday, party supporters clashed with police in Rustenburg during its first seating.
