Johannesburg - An 83-year-old man was allegedly left fighting for his life after he was severely beaten by a fellow driver he had collided with in Newlands, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday night, paramedics said.

The man was discovered lying on the side of the roadway along Inanda Road, heavily disorientated and in a serious condition, Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said on Saturday.

Paramedics were called to the scene around 20:00, Van Reenen said.

Upon arrival, paramedics ascertained that two vehicles had collided at a slow speed with little to no damage to both vehicles.

It appeared the driver of the second vehicle drove off after assaulting the elderly man.

He was treated on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital where he is currently in a critical but stable condition, Van Reenen said.
