Many families who were about to emigrate from South Africa have been in limbo, waiting for the go-ahead to travel and a compulsory quarantine slot to complete their emigration.  

Some married couples have had to conduct their relationships via WhatsApp calls and emails while they are separated.  

The uncertainty of not knowing when they will leave, means many who were planning to emigrate before the lockdown are now living off the generosity of friends and family, or digging into their savings to cover short-term rentals.
