Four senior Northern Cape government officials have appeared in court for allegedly dealing in uncut diamonds.
Provincial National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said the Northern Cape Department of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism officials had appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Kimberley.
Former head of department Patrick Seboko, senior project team manager Tebogo Gaborone, chief director of trade and sector development Susan Wyngaard, and chief financial officer Kuberin Packirisamy were facing charges of contravening the provisions of the Public Finance Management Act, dealing in uncut diamonds without a permit, and fraud.
The case was postponed to 28 March to allow for legal consultation.
The four are out on bail.
