
A group of Free State farmers made a citizen's arrest on Friday after five men allegedly tried to break into the Karkloof farm in the Verkykerskop area.
A 63-year-old was alone on the farm at the time, however, police did not provide further details about the person.
The men allegedly assaulted and robbed farmworkers, said police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele.
The five suspects appeared in the Warden Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of attempted murder, attempted residential burglary, robbery with a firearm and assault.

They are Dercio Comassio Muchanga, 34, Fernando George Chilamba, 20, Jeralo Anthony Nkomo, 31, Tino Fochero, 20, and Santos Zungisa.
They have all been remanded in custody and will appear in court again for a bail application on 8 December.
