The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the death of a bouncer who was allegedly killed by a police officer at a pub on the Gauteng West Rand.
IPID spokesperson Lizzy Shuping said a police sergeant from the West Rand Infrastructure Unit went to a pub on Friday night and came across his ex-girlfriend. The two had an altercation, which led to the officer allegedly assaulting the woman, Shuping added.
She said bouncers at the pub intervened, and the officer fought with them.

"He went outside and came back with a firearm and started shooting randomly in the direction of the bouncers. One bouncer was taken to hospital for medical attention, where he died on arrival," Shuping added.
She said another bouncer sustained a gunshot wound to the left knee.
"After the shooting, the officer fled the scene and was later found hiding in a shack three houses from his residence," Shuping said.
