Johannesburg - A man fell off a scaffold in Fourways on Wednesday after sustaining an electric shock, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said it appeared the man had fallen about 4m from the structure. He complained of possible back injuries and a burn wound.

"It is understood that he was working on the scaffolding when he sustained an electric shock and fell off [it] onto bags of cement," Vermaak said.

He was taken to hospital.

Vermaak said a second patient, believed to be on the scaffold at the time, also sustained an electric shock when he tried to grab the man to stop him falling.

The exact cause of the accident was unknown.
