Durban – KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested 203 suspects and secured 32 convictions during the 16 Days of Activism campaign, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Major Thulani Zwane said the suspects, arrested between November 25 and December 10, were accused of a number of crimes including kidnapping, assault, domestic violence, protection orders, sexual assault, common robbery, abduction, attempted rape and rape.
“The members secured 32 convictions of which four are life imprisonment. It is gladly acknowledged that maximum sentences were handed down in most of these cases and that justice was delivered to the victims. Our officers also embarked on various crime awareness campaigns through the province educating the community about any form of abuse against women and children.
“These dedicated teams of detectives have been shuttling to and from the different courts throughout the province in the quest to see justice done to several victims of rape and sexual related cases.”
