Durban - A taxi owner was gunned down in an ambush attack near Molweni, west of Durban, on Thursday.
The Department of Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, on Thursday issued a statement condemning the attack that claimed the life of the taxi owner and left two other men injured.
"Preliminary reports reveal that Khaye Malinga, a taxi owner from the Molweni-Wyebank Taxi Association, was driving his vehicle with two other taxi owners in Molweni area.
"They were ambushed by three gunmen who opened fire at them, resulting in the death of Malinga. His friends, Sibukile and Mnqobi Shangase, were critically injured and taken to hospital," it reads.
It is understood the gunmen were picked up by a getaway car and fled the scene.
No arrests have been made. Police have called for anyone with information to come forward.
MEC Willies Mchunu expressed his shock at the incident and warned those who "seek to bring instability in the Province" would be dealt with harshly.
