A 26-year-old man who allegedly hit and killed his mother with a broomstick appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Mukhethwa Tshivhase, from Matangari village outside Thohoyandou, allegedly killed his mother in the early hours of 5 September, said National Prosecuting Authority Limpopo regional spokesperson Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi.
"It is alleged that his mother, Tshivhangwaho Caroline Khomola, 58, was asleep when her son... came back home and demanded food from her."
"He started complaining about why the deceased was hiding the food in her bedroom. After that argument, the suspect became angry. He picked up the broomstick and assaulted his mother.
"The mother tried to run away, but she collapsed at the gate. She was taken to Donald Fraser hospital where she was certified dead on arrival."
The case was postponed to 29 September to obtain family members' statements, Malabi Dzhangi said.
