A 27-year-old man allegedly broke into the SABC's offices in Bloemfontein during the early hours of Sunday and attacked security guards before one shot him.
According to the Hawks, at around 04:30, a security officer noticed an intruder inside the building and immediately requested back-up.
"It is further alleged that the suspect attacked the security officials, and one official managed to pull out his official firearm and shot the suspect," Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Thandi Mbambo said.
The police and emergency services were called to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and taken to a local hospital where he is currently under police guard.
The Hawks are investigating a case of business burglary, trespassing, malicious damage to property and intimidation.
The police are investigating a case of attempted murder following the shooting.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
