A man accused of killing budding musician and LGBTQI activist Lindokuhle Cele intends applying for bail, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said on Tuesday.
Mvuyisi Mabhuthi Mogudu appeared in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on Monday, where the case was postponed for a week for a bail application, said NPA spokesperson Kholiswa Mdhluli.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said a 23-year-old man was stabbed in K-section, Umlazi, around 21:00 on Thursday.
"He sustained stab wounds and the knife was stuck in his left eye. He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival," she said on Monday.
Cele's aunt Nombuso Cele told The Mercury he was at the local butchery when a man jumped out of a minibus taxi and stabbed him all over his face and back, ignoring his pleas to stop.
She said the family believed it was a hate crime.
