Johannesburg - Police divers are looking for the body of a man who drowned in the La Mercy lagoon on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast on New Year’s day, paramedics said.

“A man in his late forties was swimming in the lagoon when he disappeared under the water,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

The incident took place at about 14:00. When paramedics arrived on the scene, the man’s body had already sunk to the bottom.
