Cape Town - An Eastern Cape man was sentenced to eight years in prison for killing his wife in a rage over uncooked chicken livers, police said on Thursday.

Captain Jackson Manatha said the trouble started on March 8, after the two had collected their old age pension.

When they arrived home in Mente village, Willowvale, 69-year-old Mabefu Mbundwana demanded that his 66-year-old wife Nofinish cook him chicken livers.

He went for a lie down and when he woke up and saw they were not done, he flew into a rage and beat her so severely with a stick that she died.

Mabunda was found guilty of murder and sentenced by the Willowvale Regional Court on Tuesday.
