  • A man has been stoned to death in Limpopo, following the murder of a teen girl.
  • The decomposing body of the 13-year-old girl was found in the man's house, police say.
  • The girl went missing on Friday after leaving home to attend extra classes at a school.

Limpopo police are hunting for the perpetrators of a vigilante attack in Motlolo village in which a man suspected of killing a 13-year-old girl was stoned to death.

The girl, Kabelo Malatji, was last seen on Friday when she left home to attend extra classes at a nearby school.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, her decomposing body was found inside the home of a 39-year-old man in the village, which falls under the Driekop policing area, on Monday night.

Neighbours reported "an unpleasant odour" to police, Mojapelo said.

"Upon arrival, police forced entry and found the lifeless body of the teenager in a decomposed state and a murder case was opened at Driekop police station. Afterward, the members of the community mobilised to locate the man whose house the body had been found in," he added.

He was found "hiding in the same village" and was stoned to death on Tuesday night.

"Police were called and on arrival at the scene, they found the victim with severe wounds. He was later declared dead by the members of the Emergency Medical Services," Mojapelo said.

Police are searching for those involved in the vigilante attack and have urged anyone who has information to call the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Daniel Mohlala, on 079 875 7771 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
