Durban – Four teachers have been suspended from the KwaZulu-Natal school where a teacher allegedly filmed himself having sex with pupils, the provincial education department said on Monday.
They also allegedly had sex with pupils at the Nquthu school. This brought the number of suspended teachers to five, spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said.
The teacher who allegedly took the video was expected to appear in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after the department opened a case against him.
Mahlambi said MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane was attending the court appearance.
Last week, the teacher’s lawyer, Bruce MacGregor, wrote to News24 to plead his client’s innocence. He said media were reporting allegations as fact. MacGregor said the teacher claimed the sex videos show him and previous, adult, partners. He denied having sex with underage pupils.
Dlungwane told News24 that three teachers from other KwaZulu-Natal schools had been dismissed for having sexual relationships with pupils.
He wanted their names added to the sexual offender’s database. Pupils should be protected at school, he said.
