
Drivers have been cautioned to avoid the Griffiths Mxenge (Mangosuthu) Highway in Umlazi, Durban, following protests in the area on Monday morning.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed that protect action was underway.
"There is currently a public protest by the community of Emhlabeni informal settlement. This community has blockaded Mangosuthu highway with burning rubble," she says.

Mbele added that the sections of the M4 were also partially blocked.

The protesters are reportedly demanding formal housing.
