It has been a disappointing start to the school year for pupils at a Mpumalanga school after donated school shoes were stolen by robbers.
Police are searching for seven suspects, who broke into a school in Kwaggafontein on Wednesday and stole the shoes.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the robbers had attacked a security guard and tied him up.
He said:
After restraining the security guard, the robbers
made off with the school shoes and office supplies.
"The shameless suspects then tied him (the guard) in the administration office and demanded his cellphone, 22 pairs of donated school shoes, 186 packs of Typeks (paper), and 75 packs of toilet paper before they disappeared."
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela said she was "disappointed" by the "barbaric and selfish incident".
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects to contact Captain Thwala on 082 923 0081.
