Newborn baby found dead in plastic bag in Johannesburg

The body of a newborn baby boy was found in a plastic bag next to a block of flats in Turffontein, Johannesburg, on Wednesday evening.

According to ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen, paramedics found the baby in the plastic bag when they arrived on the scene just before 18:30. It is understood that members of the public had come across the baby.

"Unfortunately, the baby was showing no signs of life and paramedics declared him dead at the scene."

The scene was handed over to the police for further investigations.
