A veil of mystery surrounds the incident the Toy Shop factory in Cape Town after a gang of about 40 people entered the store and damaged at least eight vehicles, and assaulted staff.
Since the incident, which took place on Wednesday, allegations of extortion have surfaced, and authorities are on high alert.
Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security JP Smith said: "There is currently an investigation into the matter and there have been rumours that this was a extortion attempt and this was a threat to the owner. We have been asking for national government to work with us when it comes to issues like (these) because this needs an intergovernmental approach."
