The accused, an advocate the North West office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, has been charged with statutory rape, sexual exploitation of children, sexual display or causing display of pornography, sexual grooming of children and sexual assault.

The victim was 15 years old in 2019 when the alleged offences were committed, Mamothame added, saying the NPA had since served the accused with a letter of suspension.

"The State requested the court for a postponement to allow further investigations by the police, as they are expecting more statements from key witnesses. His bail of R10 000 is extended until his next court appearance."
