NSRI recover body floating in Umgeni River

Durban – Police have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of a dead body floating in the Umgeni River, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Sunday.

The NSRI in a statement said its Durban crew were alerted to the incident around 08:00.

“Durban duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a report from the fishing ski boat, Game Fish, that they had happened upon a body floating off-shore of the Umgeni River.”

The body of the unidentified man was recovered and brought to shore by the NSRI working with police search and rescue divers.

"The body has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and police have opened an inquest docket," said the NSRI.
