George - The Outeniqua Pass was completely closed to traffic on Friday morning after a truck overturned, resulting in a diesel and coal spill on the road.
George municipality spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose said the road would be closed until the scene had been cleared.
"All light vehicles are being diverted over the Montagu Pass and heavy vehicles can only travel via the Robertson Pass. Motorists are advised to exercise caution," she said.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the driver sustained only moderate injuries in the incident.
"ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene and found the large truck lying on its side. The load of coal that the truck had been carrying was now strewn across the [road]," he said.
The driver was found walking around the scene upon emergency service's arrival.
He was treated and taken to hospital for further care.
