Durban – A power box was set alight on the R102 during a protest against an electricity blackout in the Fairbreeze area, Tongaat, north of Durban on Monday night.
Speaking to News24, Tongaat community policing forum chairperson Nazir Sadack said the 300 residents also pushed a scrap car on the road and set it alight while protesting.
He said residents were unhappy that they had not had electricity for two days.
"At the moment there are no injuries to report."
He went on to call for calm.
"At this stage we are hoping it resolves amicably. We know the desperate need for power. However, burning the power box doesn't help the residents cause."
Sadack said metro police, SAPS and members of the public order policing unit were on the scene maintaining calm.
