The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) has distanced itself from taxis branded in support of embattled ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule and Limpopo ANC treasurer Danny Msiza.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, the organisation said Limpopo taxis branded "Hands off Ace" did not represent the views of Santaco.

"These taxis and whatever they seek to promote do not represent the view of Santaco or the taxi industry. We strongly condemn this misleading conduct. The matter is receiving attention internally," the organisation said.

Magashule and Msiza face criminal charges related to financial crimes.

"There's nothing wrong with branding/advertising on taxis by any organisation/business. What we advise against are adverts with messages that seem to position the taxi industry and/or its structures right in the middle of internal organisational tensions or squabbles," Santaco said.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula had it out with a taxi boss on Wednesday via Twitter about the taxis. Mbalula called Limpopo taxi owner Malo-A-Botsheba a "fool" and told him to "go to the nearest hell".
