A security guard and a gunman were killed during a shootout in the Johannesburg CBD this week.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said their Undercover Unit was patrolling in the CBD when they came across a shooting at approximately 19:30 on Kerk and Mooi streets.

When officers identified themselves, the suspects opened fire on them, he said.
"Officers returned fire, injuring one suspect who later died in hospital. A security guard who was allegedly shot by the suspects also died on the scene."
Minnaar said three gunmen managed to escape.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said they were investigating the matter.
News24 tried to get clarity as to what had happened prior to the shooting, and whether it was a robbery that was interrupted by the security guard who was then killed by the gunmen.
However, Sello refused to comment further.
