
A security guard and a gunman were killed during a shootout in the Johannesburg CBD this week.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said their Undercover Unit was patrolling in the CBD when they came across a shooting at approximately 19:30 on Kerk and Mooi streets.

When officers identified themselves, the suspects opened fire on them, he said.
"Officers returned fire, injuring one suspect who later died in hospital. A security guard who was allegedly shot by the suspects also died on the scene."
Minnaar said three gunmen managed to escape.
He added:
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said they were investigating the matter.
News24 tried to get clarity as to what had happened prior to the shooting, and whether it was a robbery that was interrupted by the security guard who was then killed by the gunmen.
However, Sello refused to comment further.
