
A man suspected of murdering a Durban police officer was killed in a shootout with police in Inanda on Tuesday while they were trying to arrest him.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the man was wanted in connection with the murder of K9 Unit officer, Constable Lindokuhle Gift Goba.
"Members of the K9 Unit, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Anti-Gang Unit and the DPCI National Priority Violent Crime [team] were pursuing the suspect who shot and fatally wounded 40-year-old Constable Lindokuhle Gift Goba of the Durban K9 Unit and robbed him of his service pistol on Quarry Road in Mayville on Saturday," Netshiunda said. Two men were wounded in a shooting that broke out during the robbery. One later died in hospital and the other one disappeared after he was discharged.

Police traced him to a house in Inanda.
"After the police had introduced and identified themselves as men of law, the suspect responded with a hail of bullets and a shootout ensued.
"He was wounded in the shootout and died," Netshiunda added.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will investigate the matter.
