Durban - A Swazi man accused of human trafficking, abduction and rape has been arrested in Durban after he was traced by Hawks officers on Wednesday.

Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo said that officers arrested the 40-year-old after following up on information about his whereabouts.

"The suspect allegedly abducted three children aged 5, 7 and 13 in Swaziland last year. A case was opened at Mbabane and the docket was handled by Interpol. Whilst in South Africa he allegedly repeatedly raped the 13-year-old until she fell pregnant," he said.

"The children were rescued last week and placed in a place of safety. Arrangements to reunite them with their biological mother are in progress," he said.

The suspect is due to appear in the Durban Regional Court on Friday, 17 June.
