Taxi shooting case involving Zuma's nephew postponed

Durban – The case involving President Jacob Zuma’s nephew, taxi boss Mfundo Gcaba and 11 others was on Monday postponed to March 23 for further investigation.

When the men appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrate’s Court, prosecutor Khumbu Shazi said the State needed more time to gather outstanding evidence, process 150 cartridges, photographs, and DNA. They face charges of murder, attempted murder and public violence.

The shooting was believed to have been prompted by a long-standing dispute between Sonke and Zamokuhle Long Distance Taxi Associations over the Port Shepstone route.

The 12 were arrested on September 16 after a shooting at the Brook Street taxi rank in the Durban CBD. Three people, including a commuter, were killed.
