Johannesburg – Two children were killed when a van knocked them down in Soweto on Wednesday afternoon, Johannesburg metro police said.

The boy, 5, and the girl, 7, had been walking home from school on the sidewalk of Dlamini Road in Kliptown, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

A 62-year-old man lost control of his white Tata van and struck them. He was arrested and charged with two counts of culpable homicide, and reckless or negligent driving.
