Two men have died in Tongaat, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, after a train decapitated them while they were asleep on a railway line, police said on Tuesday.
"It is alleged this morning at 03:20, two males believed to be in their twenties were asleep on the railway line at Tongaat train station when they were struck by a moving train. Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated," police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said.
Meanwhile, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said they were contacted by a passer-by at approximately 06:20, who reported the incident.

"Reaction officers and RUSA medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found railway authorities already in attendance," they said in a statement.
Reports from the ground have suggested that the men were homeless and often slept on the railway line.
Mbele said an inquest docket was being investigated by Tongaat SAPS.
