WATCH | Crime statistics: Delft, Khayelitsha replace Nyanga as SA's murder capital

  • The 2019/2020 crime statistics revealed a 1.4% increase in murders nationally.
  • Police precincts in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal have taken the top 10 spots for the most recorded murders.
  • Police precincts in the Eastern and Western Cape as well as KwaZulu-Natal have also placed in the top 10 for attempted murders. 

The latest crime statistics revealed murders have increased by 1.4%, with police precincts in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape placing in the top 10.

In the Western Cape, Delft and Khayelitsha have replaced Nyanga as the murder capital of the country.

Police precincts in the Eastern and Western Cape as well as KwaZulu-Natal held the top 10 for attempted murders, the statistics showed.

Between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020, 21 325 murders were recorded, which translates into around 58.42 per day.

The top 10 stations with the most recorded murders are:


1. Delft, Western Cape - 256 cases.

2. Khayelitsha, Western Cape - 251 cases.

3. Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal - 231 cases.

4. Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal - 212 cases.

5. Nyanga, Western Cape - 185 cases.

6. Mfuleni, Western Cape - 165 cases.

7. Harare, Western Cape - 162 cases.

8. Plessislaer, KwaZulu-Natal - 161 cases.

9. Mthatha, Eastern Cape - 159 cases.

10. Philippi East, Western Cape - 157 cases

3)      Mitchells Plain, Western Cape – 202 cases
