Wednesday's weather: Warm day, but expect thunderstorms in several provinces

The South African Weather Service issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the extreme west of the North West, and the west of the Free State.

The weather in your region:

Gauteng will be fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy, with isolated late afternoon showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.

It will be partly cloudy, windy and warm in Mpumalanga, becoming cloudy from the afternoon.

There will be isolated showers and thundershowers in parts of the province.

It will be hot in parts of the Lowveld.

The Limpopo escarpment will be cloudy in the morning, otherwise the province will be partly cloudy, windy and warm to hot, but scorching in the western Bushveld.

Isolated evening showers and thundershowers are expected in the south-east.

The North West will be partly cloudy and hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

It will be cloudy in the east of the Free State until late morning.

Other areas will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered showers in the east.

The east will be windy.

The central parts of the Northern Cape will be fine, otherwise the province will be partly cloudy and hot to sweltering, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly, becoming strong southerly to south-easterly in the afternoon.

It will be fine in the west of the Western Cape, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, clearing from the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly in the south at first, otherwise fresh to strong easterly to south-easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Cloudy and cool conditions, with isolated showers, will occur in the western half of the Eastern Cape.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming light to moderate easterly by the afternoon.

The eastern half of the province will be cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers, and rain along the coast.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming light to moderate easterly to north-easterly by the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal will be cloudy and cool, but warm in the north, where it will be partly cloudy.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected, with widespread showers along the coast and adjacent interior.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming moderate south-easterly in places by the evening.
