There will be strong winds in the Northern Cape for most of this weekend, with the wind set to pick up in the Western Cape on Saturday, according to the South African Weather Service

Special weather advisories

1. Strong to near gale (50-70km/h) north-easterly winds leading to dust storms are expected over the Richtersveld, Nama Khoi and Kamiesberg municipalities in the Northern Cape. 

2. Strong (50-65km/h) north-westerly winds are expected over the western parts of Namakwa in the Northern Cape and the interior of Western Cape on Saturday, but persisting over the interior of the Western Cape on Sunday.

3. Strong to near gale force (60-70km/h) north-westerly winds are expected along the coast between Alexander Bay and Cape Point on Saturday, but strong to gale force (65-80km/h) westerly to south-westerly between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay overnight into Sunday.

There will be morning fog patches in places in Gauteng, otherwise partly cloudy and cold, but cool in the north.

The expected UVB sunburn index is low.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy and cool to cold, with light rain over the eastern highveld, mostly in the morning, where it will be very cold.

Limpopo will be cloudy and cool to cold, with drizzle expected along the escarpment, mostly during the morning and evening.

The North West will be fine and cool, but partly cloudy in the south-east, spreading to the north-east in the afternoon.

In the Free State, it will be cold in the east and south, otherwise fine and cool, but cloudy with morning fog patches in the east, becoming partly cloudy.

The eastern parts of the Northern Cape will be fine and cool, but cold in the south.

The western parts of the Northern Cape will be fine and cool, but warm over the north-west, with possible blowing sand and dust along the north-western parts during the day.

The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to north-easterly, otherwise fresh to strong and touching gale force north-easterly over the north-western parts.

The Western Cape will be fine and cool, with frost in places over the eastern interior, and high-level clouds late afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly to easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

In the western half of the Eastern Cape, it will be cloudy, with fog patches in places in the morning, otherwise fine and cold. It will be partly cloudy and cool in places along the coast.

The wind along the coast will be moderate westerly, becoming easterly in the afternoon, but fresh north-easterly in the evening.

The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will be cool along the coast, otherwise fine and cold, but partly cloudy in the south.

The wind along the coast will be moderate westerly, becoming north-easterly in the evening.

KwaZulu-Natal will be cloudy in the north, otherwise partly cloudy and cool, but cold in the west. It will become fine in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-westerly, becoming easterly to north-easterly from the south towards evening.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.
