Mantashe: More coloured votes for ANC

Johannesburg - The number of coloured people voting for the ANC had increased in this month's local government elections, the ANC secretary general said on Sunday.

"Statistics [are] a strange science," Gwede Mantashe said.

"The overall number of coloured voters (for the ANC) increased, even though the percentage declined."

This reflected the ANC's commitment to non-racialism, an enduring feature of the party, Mantashe said.

He was speaking at Luthuli House in Johannesburg at a media briefing following the party's national executive committee meeting.
