At the turn of every year, members of my fraternity get our pens out and start sounding off about the year that has been and the one to come. In a country and an economy where prospects have been shaped by the humdrum of its everyday politics, it normally turns into a debate about who is or is not in the ascendancy in the governing party. A tiresome if not boring conversation. But this year, politics took on another hue.
