While the worst projections of the impact of Covid-19 in South Africa haven't come to light, it has had a tremendous impact on our economy. With the second wave now underway  and another on the way  things are not looking good financially for the country, writes Ron Derby.

Pandemic, politics and inertia – words that best describe 2020.

At the turn of every year, members of my fraternity get our pens out and start sounding off about the year that has been and the one to come. In a country and an economy where prospects have been shaped by the humdrum of its everyday politics, it normally turns into a debate about who is or is not in the ascendancy in the governing party. A tiresome if not boring conversation. But this year, politics took on another hue.
