10 Amusement Parks rides we can’t wait to try out in 2016

Cape Town - If you're a lover of flips and thrills, 2016 will be the year for you. 

Theme parks are taking it up a notch with a fistful of highest, fastest, tallest and world's first rides coming your way. 

Adrenaline-fueled roller coaster lovers can look forward to these 10 fully themed rides and roller coasters in this new year: 

1. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Universal Studios, Hollywood

Five years after opening, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter gets a new ride and fully-themed section. Hogwarts castle will sit at the heart of 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter' where the land's signature ride, 'Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey' will take guests on a trip into many memorable scenes alongside Harry, Ron and Hermione.

2. Skull Island: Reign of Kong - Universal Studios, Orlando

The King Kong-inspired attraction, 'Skull Island: Reign of Kong', is set to open middle 2016 at Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Here, guests will be able to board a truck to take them through the iconic, scary Skull Island.

3. The world’s first 'psychological' theme-park ride by illusionist Derren Brown - Thorpe Park, UK

Thew well-known magician Derren Brown’s new ride promises a 13-minute, immersive journey that will 'derail people’s minds'. Can't wait... This ride is set to open in March next year.

5. Hunger Games Theme Park - Dubai 

Set to open in October next year is a simulated glimpse into the life of the iconic Katniss Everdeen. The four million square foot Motiongate Dubai is set to attract over three million tourists annually, who will be immersed in a cinematic journey through their favourite movies via 27 different latest-in-technology rides and attractions. 

6. Frozen Ever After - Epcot, Orlando

According to Disney Parks, this attraction will transport guests to Arendelle just in time for the “Winter in Summer” celebration, in June next year. The attraction’s project team is currently partnering with many of the talented individuals at Walt Disney Animation who helped bring the original Frozen movie to life.

7. The Joker - Six Flags, California

Set to open in autumn 2016, The Joker will be every bit as scary as the one in the Batman comics. The ride is based on Batman's nemesis, so riders can expect some unexpected thrills, dips and dives. This ride will also introduce a brand new roller coaster manoevre - the world's first 'step-up under-flip inverted roll'.

8.  Ferrari Land- Port Aventura, Barcelona

Fans of Ferrari and the world of speed will have the chance to ride the highest roller coaster in Europe, standing at a height of 112 metres, when this park opens in just outside Barcelona in 2016. This vertical accelerator is an incredible experience for speed lovers: passengers experience the same sensations as in racing with an acceleration of 180 km/h in just 5 seconds.

9. Mako Hypercoaster - Seaworld, Orlando

This is probably the most anticipated ride to open in SeaWorld, Orlando in 2016 as it will be the tallest, fastest and longest coaster in Orlando. The ride is named after the Mako shark, known for its extreme jumps and the ability to quickly change course as it pursues its prey.  

10. Cobra's Curse - Busch Gardens, Tampa

This spinning roller coaster is the only one of its kind in the world, featuring a vertical lift and taking riders on a whirlwind adventure of exciting explorations. Cobra’s Curse will open to guests in 2016 at the theme park in Busch Gardens.
