7 Pics show US turning Storm Jonas mess into something magical

Cape Town - About a quarter of  the US is being affected by Storm Jonas as it imposes a travel ban on all local and state roads across New York City with an estimated  8.4 million residents, as well as Long Island and crossings west to New Jersey from 2:30 pm (19:30 GMT). Only authorized emergency vehicles, hazard vehicles and critical health care personnel are permitted to use the roads, officials said.

The vast majority of flights into and out of New York area airports - La Guardia, John F Kennedy and Newark - were also cancelled.

Central Park has already recorded 14.7 inches of snowfall. Up to two feet (61 centimeters) was expected in several major cities.

UPDATE: US snowmaggedon 2016 forces NYC travel ban

But most appear to be making the best of the snowy chill, as these images show...

1. Of course there was the obligatory Jonas Brothers silliness...

2. Snow blizzard? Snow ball fight!

3. Well stocked when snowed in...

4. Grounded in all manner of travel...

5. A little bit of pooch swag...

6. A walk in Central Park is all kinds of crazy beautiful

7. And finally...  this newly-wed couple
