If you're a keen traveller who likes to share tales, tips and trifles with other wanderers, you should head on over to Twitter every Tuesday for Travel Talk on Twitter, also known as #TTOT.
Taking place every week at 11:30 (SA time), the chat is run by a few of the world's top travel bloggers, such as Travel Dudes, Roni Weiss and Runaway Juno, and aimed at getting travellers from all over the world to sharing their experiences.
How it works:
A new topic is introduced every week, so to stay in the loop by keeping close tabs on the TTOT Facebook group.
The discussion takes the form of five different questions related to the topic and will be numbered Q1 - Q5, with a couple of minutes for responses to each. In order to respond to a specific question you will start your answer with A1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, of course including #TTOT so you're included in the stream.
Today's topic: Loathed destinations
Check out our favourite answers to each of the questions:
Q1: The most loathed travel destination?
A1. I think the feelings are related to the experience we had, not about the destination. Most of the times. #TTOT— Juno Kim (@RunawayJuno) May 7, 2013
Q2: What destinations left other’s raving but you just couldn’t stand?
A2. Normally it is the tourist traps (full of touts and guides who won't leave you alone) which I can't stand.. #ttot— Path Rarely Taken (@TravelerRohan) May 7, 2013
A2. I've never been anywhere I found particularly atrocious! there are pros and cons in every destination! #ttot— Ruggero (@RuggeroTripTide) May 7, 2013
A2 Madrid. We just didn't get along. I plan on giving it a second chance though. Everyone deserves a second chance, right!? #ttot— Lizzie Davey (@WanderfulWorld1) May 7, 2013
Q3 What do you do when you end up in a destination you hate?
A2 It's not like I couldn't stand it but Mongolia bores me to death when the rest of the world seems so attracted. #ttot— Antoine D'AUDIGIER (@detourdumonde) May 7, 2013
A2 Make the most of it......... Or just hit the bottle. Everything is much rosier after several drinks #ttot— Lizzie Davey (@WanderfulWorld1) May 7, 2013
A3. Try hard to find a good reason to stay (because I don't want to quit) but if that fails, move on ASAP. #TTOT— Our Travel Picks (@ourtravelpicks) May 7, 2013
A3 Hitchhike somewhere else, change my trip. I hated New Delhi and went to Cashmere instead. Night and day, Hell and Heaven. #ttot— Antoine D'AUDIGIER (@detourdumonde) May 7, 2013
Q4 Have any 2nd visits changed your opinion about a place you'd loathed in the first place?
A3 Try and seek out something you like - if not, move on - no biggie! Not everyone can like everywhere :) #ttot— Holiday-n-Adventure (@H_n_A_Travel) May 7, 2013
A4. Didn't loathe it, but I like Hong Kong more every time I go. Don't like Amsterdam, but like every other Dutch city I've been to. #ttot— Roni Weiss (@roniweiss) May 7, 2013
A4: Definitely Barcelona - difficult to describe, but first time there I just didn't 'get it'. Second visit everything just clicked! #TTOTMay 7, 2013
Q5 What is your #1 travel pet peeve?
A4 Didn't get Berlin the first time (as a teen). Now can't get enough of it! #ttot— qualityhunters (@qualityhunters) May 7, 2013
A5 Extra fees & haggling taxi drivers.#ttot— Traveling Foodist (@Travels4Yum) May 7, 2013
A5. Drunks. Snobbish travelers :P #ttot— indohoy (@indohoy) May 7, 2013
A5: Seeing fellow travellers acting ignorant towards local customs. Makes us all look bad. #ttot— Girl Wander ? (@123_ALLONS_Y) May 7, 2013
A5. To see people (tourists) eating McDonad's instead of trying local food! #ttot— Ruggero (@RuggeroTripTide) May 7, 2013
