Cape Town – Remember that Canadian guy who had planned to go on an around-the-world trip with his girlfriend and then she dumped him? Unwilling to let the expensive tickets go to waste, he set out on an amazing mission to find a woman with the same name as his ex to join him for the trip! (He found someone, but they didn't fall in love... aaah)
Well, a similar situation has just played itself out in England recently, when a man who calls himself ‘Jilted John’ suddenly found himself with a pair of tickets to a dream honeymoon in the Caribbean and no one to go with, after his fiancé dumped him shortly before their wedding.
According to an AFP-Relaxnews report, ‘Jilted John’ decided to sell half of his holiday on eBay, upon finding out that he would only get half of his money back on the two-week holiday he had booked at the Blue Bay Villas Hotel in the Dominican Republic.
His criteria for his new travelling companion: easy-going, down to earth, British citizen, and athletic.
When the top eBay bidders reneged, however, Whitbread took a different approach, raffling off tickets for £10 (R177.99 at R17.80/pound) on his site jiltedjohn.com.
The winner - ticket No. 53 - was Kelly Wood, whom he met for the first time at the Manchester airport just two hours before boarding his plane to the Dominican on Monday morning.
Cameras from ITV's local program "Good Morning Britain" captured the moment the two shared their first hug. Check it out below:
