New Yorkers HATE Taylor Swift for being their new Global Welcome Ambassador

Cape Town - Singer, songwriter, actress and now also Global Welcome Ambassador for one of the world's most sought after cities, it seems like there's nothing Taylor Swift can't do.

The country-darling-turned-pop-star was named 2014/2015 Global Welcome Ambassador for New York City on Monday by NYC & Company shortly after releasing the latest song off her new album 1989, called 'Welcome to New York.'

As New York City’s Global Welcome Ambassador, Taylor will showcase the City’s unparalleled vibrancy that inspired her to write “Welcome To New York,” reinforced by the refrain, NYC & Company explained in a press release earlier this week.

In a video released for the announcement, Swift shares her love for the Big Apple, saying that New Yorkers are 'very friendly' and that the city has a lot of 'heart.'

Despite her best efforts, the singer has not managed to convince everyone of her worthiness for the position and many stalwart New Yorkers expressed their disbelief and disappointment in comments on the NYC Go Facebook page:

Conor Mangan - So stupid. So many iconic New Yorkers who live, breathe, and embody the amazing city, and they pick her? Horrible.

Joseph Dugan - Taylor Swift is from Pennsylvania. Please revoke her credentials soon!!!!!

Sandra Ordonez - YOU MUST BE F*CKING JOKING! Who made this decision - someone who didn't grow up in NYC?

Others took to Twitter:

What do you think? Does she deserve the accolade or should they have chosen a true local?
