PICS: This fairy land of ice sculptures in China reminds us of Frozen

Cape Town - If you have a pre-teen kiddie with a love of all things Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Frozen, best they never find out about the Harbin Snow and Ice Festival. Else you're going to have to book tickets straight away!

Held on an annual basis in the little town of Harbin on China's Northeastern border with Russia, the festival sees more than 10 000 employers chiseling away at hundreds of unimaginably magical ice sculptures of all shapes and sizes.

While its already pretty impressive in daylight hours, it becomes almost unbearably magical at night as LED lights illuminate the castles, ferris wheels, dragons and towers (to mention just a few) in an array of pastel colours.

This year sees the 31st installment of the festival and has been drawing crowds steadily since its inception.

What makes it all even more intriguing is the fact that all the sculptures are made out of big blocks of ice harvested from the nearby Songhua river.

The Daily Mail reports that all in all, about 180 000 sq metres of ice and 150 000 sq metres of snow have been used to complete all the works.
