South African mother jailed in Japan

Cape Town -  Marilyn Massyn, a 36-year-old woman who boarded a plane from Johannesburg to Abu Dhabi on the 22nd of October this year and disappeared soon afterwards, has since been found in a jail in Japan, reports Netwerk24

Marilyn Massyn did not give any information regarding her trip to Abu Dhabi when she left the country last month. She only told her mother that she was going on a trip with some friends and asked her to look after her pets at home.

When her mother, Angie Massyn, did not hear anything from her daughter after a week, she became worried and suspicious and took to social media in order to gather information regarding her daughter's whereabouts. Angie Massyn also contacted various embassies in the search for her daughter.

Whilst authorities were on the look-out for Massyn in the United Arab Emirates, it was established that she took another flight to Japan from Abu Dhabi. Netwerk24 later confirmed that Massyn was found in a jail in Japan.

Massyn has a 14-year-old son, Keagan, who is currently in boarding school in South Africa. According to his grandmother, Angie, he was very upset and traumatised when his mother did not return from what was supposed to be a 4-day trip to the United Arab Emirates.

According to The National, South Africa’s ambassador to the UAE Mr Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro, is aware of Massyn’s disappearance. He said that the embassy would contact other local authorities involved to help get clarity regarding the matter.
