ALERT: Kruger's Orpen Gate inaccessible due to protests

Cape Town - Visitors to the Kruger National Park are informed that Orpen Gate is inaccessible due to protests taking place on the road (R531) in front of the Southern Wildlife College today, 24 October 2017. Guests are advised to use alternative gates such as Paul Kruger and Phalaborwa to access or exit the Park until further notice.

While SANParks has been unable to clarify the reason for the protest - more info will be made available when possible.

From 1 September 2017, all visitors who are 18 years old and above must produce positive identity document for scanning in order to gain access

"For non-South African visitors, they must produce passports but South African driver’s licence will also be acceptable," says KNP’s Managing Executive, Glenn Phillips.

SANParks announced it is implementing additional gate access control systems, set to start being enforced at its entrance gates in the southern part of the park. In March this year the park also implemented permit access on its southern gates to target what it calls ‘drop-offs’.

Since then guests who visit the KNP are expected to produce a permit, with the vehicle registration checked against the vehicle disk and the number of people in the vehicle checked against the permit, whether guests are staying for the day or overnight.
