Cape Town - While it may not be the actual most-visited destination on the globe, it certainly reflected the places most travellers dream of...
A new study by teflSearch has revealed the world's top searched destinations - the places we virtually visit with high hopes of going there one day. The study also reveals the trends with Saffas' searches.
For South Africans, the most searched and lusted-over holiday destination is Mozambique, right across the border.
And understandably so. This budget-friendly escape is ideal for foodies, those in search of the perfect beaches and waves, romantic couples and families.
Mozam is followed closely by another close-by favourite - Mauritius. And third-most-searched-for is Madagascar.
By the looks of the stats, it's obvious that South Africans like to keep it close - real close. In fourth place on the most searched-for destinations list is Mzansi herself. Because if so many international visitors flock to our shores annually, why should we revel in our own country's beauty too?
A sho't left experience in South Africa is just the thing this Tourism and Heritage Month in South Africa. SA Tourism launched a campaign with the theme #TourismForAll to coincide with the World Tourism Day on 27 September and Heritage Day in SA on 24 September. And to encourage South Africans to explore a world right outside their doorsteps, Tourism SA is running a competition. Check it out here.
Only in fifth place on the world's most searched destinations list is a country from another continent - expat favourite the United Kingdom.
The Top 10 most searched for destinations from South Africans are:
Mozambique - 10.1%
Mauritius - 8.5%
Madagascar - 5.2%
South Africa - 3.8%
United Kingdom - 3.4%
Namibia - 2.8%
Australia - 2.0%
India - 1.8%
Zimbabwe - 1.7%
United States - 1.7%
Internationally, the most-searched-for destinations are all famous for their pristine beaches, and relatively cheaper currencies. Check it out:
