Big Friendly Giant Book Drive grows as Gautrain, SureTravel get on board

Cape Town - Jozi's Gautrain and travel booking agent Sure Travel have joined low-cost carrier Mango in the Big Friendly Giant book collection drive, which launches today.

Times Media Films, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, Penguin and several other partner brands in a large book collection drive in tandem with the release of the Steven Spielberg directed Roald Dahl classic The Big Friendly Giant.

Beyond promoting literacy and reading, collected books will be handed to hospitalized children by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust. The campaign also forms part of Mango’s Nelson Mandela International Day activities.

If you'd like to get involved, you may drop off books at collection bins at Gautrain’s Midrand, Rosebank and Marlboro stations as well as selected Sure Travel branches nationwide, Cinemas, Exclusive Books outlets and Mango check-in counters.

“July, with Nelson Mandela International Day as its anchor, has become the traditional month of heightened social awareness,” Gautrain’s Kesagee Nayager says.

“Advocating reading and collecting books to encourage young, deserving South Africans to read lies close to our hearts and joining the campaign, a natural extension of our corporate ideal.”

Geraldine Boshoff, contracts and marketing at Sure Travel agrees. “The Big Friendly Giant, likely to be one of the year’s biggest cinema hits, is the perfect vehicle to leverage and encourage the public to contribute. Sure Travel is one of the country’s most established travel management brands and, as a responsible corporate citizen, it is part of our mantra to give back.”

Whether or not someone has flown with us before, Mango is the airline for all the people and concomitant to that is our ongoing commitment to many projects that we drive,” Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout says.

The Big Friendly Giant opened in cinemas nationally on 1 July. You can check out Channel24's review of the childhood classic here
