WOULD YOU? Will travel for food: Award-winning restaurants to add to your travel bucket-list

Food and flavour are at the centre of many cultures. Taste can range from cool lemon notes to thirst inducing spiciness and back again. And while food and flavour mainly play on the sense of taste, not everyone experiences a flavour experience on that singular level.

Expedia used the idea of synaesthesia (which affects roughly about 1% of the world population) to create these decadent platters for the eyes. Individuals who experience synaesthesia may associate sounds with shapes or feelings, colours with words, and even tastes with sounds.

Using this as their inspiration, they visualised flavour sensations and the result truly is an eye-and-mouthwatering one.

Wherever you choose to let your tongue lie, these 7 global flavours are sure to keep them salivating with egg-citement and then some.

Wonder what South Africa's delicacies will look like?
