PICS: Free State sandstorm will literally scratch at your eyes

Even though the Free State province of SA is somewhat used to the dry summer weather - it is more likely to experience such severe winds during the months of August to November, explains 2OceansVibe.

However, the strong winds gathered up all of the dry sand and sent it flying through the air - making visibility and travelling outdoors rather hazardous.

South Africa seems to have fast become a victim to El Nino's power, having experienced raging heatwaves, fire danger conditions and severe droughts in a very short space of time.
